Machine Flower

Synopsis

The children who reside in the Facility don't have names, they have numbers. They don't have parents, they have doctors. They don't have dreams, they have assignments.

And yet, one child among them wonders about the family she was snatched away from, about the name they surely gave her... And she dreams. She dreams about an ordinary life and what's waiting for her on the other side of the wall that imprisons her. Fresh air, freedom... delicious food.

Machine Flower follows 9-01's struggle to claim the human identity that was denied her by the scientists, who see her as nothing more than a weapon to be used in the righteous battle against the villains who would terrorize their nation. But is the selfish need for personal freedom worth sacrificing the safety of millions?

Clicked the link over at 3PS, and felt instantly compelled to read through the whole archive. Lovely clean art you have here. It’s amazing how grabbing the story is despite how little it gives away.

heh, actually, i had my frontal lobe go haywire once. nasty bike crash.

turns out that it controls inhibitions and the like…if it’s damaged, that means nothing stops you from swearing at people, or being crude…so any botched surgery on 3 will surely have no negative effect…why worry?

Dojang is totally right. Nothing will happen to Three. Three is already all these things. But that is why we love her so. And her 2% human self. Wait does that mean that her brain is part of the 2% and not her girly bits? I feel jipped.

Looks like the number of comments per strip (and probably the number of readers) has doubled/tripled since the link on 3PS^^
I clicked the link there, too, read through the archive and was instantly impressed.
Great background story, great characters (though I have the urge to rip apart, torture to death or otherwise kill in a very painful or spectacular way some of them. Specifically Dr. Herloz and 9-02.) and great art.

I’ll be waiting for updates^^

A compelling story with no excess, very lean but informative. Elegant.
